Project Overview
Background
EKO Wallet, a established digital wallet platform, was facing challenges common to rapidly scaling fintech products. The existing dashboard architecture and design, while functional, suffered from several key UX and usability issues that had emerged over time.
This older interface led to user friction, hindered the introduction of new features, and ultimately limited the platform's ability to scale and maintain a modern, premium feel in a competitive market.
Challenge
Create a highly unique and engaging in-app gifting feature —ekogift— that goes beyond static digital cards to offer a premium, emotionally resonant user experience. This required not only designing an intuitive gifting flow but also successfully integrating complex, themed animations and mascots (Birthday, Love, Just for Fun) to deliver an unprecedented level of delight and novelty, while overcoming the technical challenge of incorporating high-quality animation into a seamless mobile environment.
Objectives
Market Innovation & Differentiation: Launch a disruptive feature, ekogift, that establishes a new benchmark for digital gifting within fintech and creates a compelling viral loop for user acquisition and retention.
Maximize User Engagement: Design the gifting experience to be simple, highly emotional, and delightful, focusing on three animated themes to dramatically increase user adoption of the feature and time spent in the app.
Overcome Technical Animation Hurdles: Successfully research, develop, and implement the technical architecture necessary to embed smooth, performant animated mascots within the live mobile application without compromising load times or stability.
Deliver a Premium, Modern Experience: Ensure the new ekogift interface and visual design align with contemporary digital aesthetics, reinforcing the EKO Wallet brand as innovative and premium.

About the wallet
EKO is the Paraguayan digital wallet that allows users to manage their money simply and securely, endorsed by Banco Familiar.
The platform provides a free International MasterCard Debit Card for global purchases. Within the app, users can instantly send/receive money, pay bills, and recharge services. EKO offers users total control over their finances from a single application.

Context
Starting point
Uncharted Market Territory: The Void in Digital Gifting
No integrated digital gifting existed in the market. EKO Wallet seized this void, becoming the first-mover to define a new, emotional standard beyond basic transactional transfers.
Low Engagement Beyond Core Transactions
Usage was transactional only. The absence of a social, innovative feature limited delight, sharing, and crucial viral growth.
Lack of Feature Differentiation & Brand Impact
No signature feature existed. Ekogift was essential for brand differentiation and establishing a premium, innovation-led market position.
Initial premise
Objective
User’s perspective
Ease the understanding of the product & deliver delight
Business
To drive higher user engagement and transactions
Tech
Seamlessly incorporate complex animations
Process
The project was executed as a rapid Innovation Sprint with the singular goal of establishing EKO Wallet as the first-mover in digital gifting and addressing the platform's engagement ceiling. A preliminary Discovery Phase confirmed the significant market void and the opportunity to introduce a dedicated social feature that could drive viral growth, a goal far beyond routine transactions.
The core work involved a swift, cross-functional sprint where Design, Engineering, and Business rapidly prototyped the Ekogift feature. Success hinged on the validation of two factors: the ability to create high user delight through complex, animated mascots (Birthday, Love, Fun), and strictly adhering to the technical constraint of incorporating this complex animation without requiring a disruptive backend refactoring. This experimental approach ensured the innovative feature was delivered efficiently and with minimal impact on core systems.
